AT-A-GLANCE: Due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, wearing masks has become a world-class phenomenon. Due to the seriousness of the epidemic in many regions and countries, the government decreed “mask order”, making it mandatory to wear masks in public. There were news reports shortly after that residents and police condemned the non-compliance, and this trend has now been seen on a global scale.

However, even though the virus's trend has not faded yet, the public epidemic prevention awareness declines over time. It isn't easy to monitor and exhort those non-compliances comprehensively. Meanwhile, face recognition technology has made considerable progress in the security industry and other fields and has been widely used. Therefore, instead of letting the public monitor each other, we propose a more efficient way by developing a face recognition program that can detect whether people are wearing masks. Furthermore, a follow-up procedure would be carried on to those non-compliances in a peaceful way, which ideally helps to slow down the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this project is to develop an application for the public to simplify the process of detection and improve the effectiveness of epidemic prevention by detecting whether people are wearing masks.
In Hong Kong, there are many shopping malls that use machines to detect the temperature of people. However, it is not enough to fit the situation in Hong Kong, as the government decreed "mask order". This project also could support those policies, helping those indoor organizations to convince and manage the public to wear a mask, moreover, it could also lower the burden on staff and decrease task time.
